Dear Supporters,

Last year we initiated a LiveStrong event paw in paw with Zoolatry on the CB which snowballed, and many of you joined us by going yellow on your blogs to support LiveStrong Day on October 2nd 2010. It was a wonderful day and we cannot thank you, our supporters, enough.

Well October 2nd 2011 is LiveStrong Day again ~ and we would like to stage another CB event to show our continuing solidarity and support for ALL our friends who are still currently battling cancer and all the other 28 million cancer survivors, and their families, worldwide. We would also like to honour the humans and pets who have lost their lives to this horrible disease ~ including many of our beloved furry friends from the CB.

Would you join us and go YELLOW again?

All you have to do to take part is:

Put a predominately YELLOW image on your blog and FB page (if you have one) on October 2nd 2011

Hello friends!

Milo & Alfie and Jan & Peter support the Lance Armstrong Foundation LiveStrong in helping to raise awareness about this terrible disease, cancer.

About 12 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year. That figure is expected to reach 27 million by 2030
The cost of new cancer cases in humans is already estimated to be about £185bn ($286bn) a year
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Cancer accounts for almost half of the deaths of pets over 10 years of age, and early diagnosis is a key to successful treatment.
Cancer also occurs in wild animals. Some well documented examples of cancer in wild animals include facial tumors in Tasmanian devils,fibropapillomatosis in sea turtles,and genital carcinoma in sea lions.
Remember: Treatment Plans and Cures that are found for cancer in humans, benefit animals in the long term too as the knowledge cascades ~ and that is VERY impawtant to us.

Hey, Sam here from Jan's Funny Farm.. Today we are here to honor those who have fought or are fighting cancer. Over the years we have known many who have been touched by this disease, whether human or furry. Some have won. Some have put up a long, hard fight but lost the battle.

We post our blog header here because it will be replaced in a few days with the autumn header, but we don't want to forget why we created it. Cancer doesn't just affect the life of the patient, but family and friends also.

We have sometimes felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of people we are aware of who are suffering with some form of cancer. And each year we lose a large number of blogging furry friends to lymphoma or another type of this illness.

We post this in memory of all those we have lost and in honor of all those currently fighting to win.

Today we join our pals throughout the blogosphere who are participating in LiveStrong Day. Our Pals Milo and Alfie and the Zoolatry girls first posted about this day and you can read more about it HERE. We've seen way too much cancer over the last year and we are purring and praying for a world without cancer.

We celebrate Auntie El who has been through a rough time in the last year. We know she still suffers from the effects of her chemo and we hope that things improve a lot soon. Her scans have been good and she goes for another PET scan in October. We're purring and praying for her continued improvement. Auntie El LivesStrong every day!

On September 21, 2010 we lost our sweet sisfur Sniffie to cancer. We miss her very much and hope that she and our pal Sweet Praline and Little Beignet (who also went to the Bridge because of cancer) are having a good time together at the Bridge.

Many thanks to Mom Chandra from Life from a Cat's Perspective for doing the slideshow! We think she did a super job.

This time last year along with many others wedid our first ever LIVESTRONG post. We would like to thank Milo and Alfie, and Ann of Zoolatry for all the work they put into it to enable us to take part again.

It gives us the time to stop and remember all our friends who lost their brave battle and have gone to The Rainbow Bridge. We also are thinking of those who are still fighting against cancer and send our purrs to all those affected to give them the strength to win through. Then there are those who have won against all the odds, the cancer survivors. We all know of many of our friends who were taken by the evil C and we are purring for all the furries, be they cat, dog, bunny or guinea pig and of course all those not mentioned.

Last year we put up this graphic in memory of our mum's mum and dad. Little did we know then that our mum would also be a cancer survivor. She first noticed something was wrong at the beginning of the year and made an appointment to see her doctor. She could have seen a practice doctor the next day but she thought it was just "Women's Troubles" so when told she couldn't get an appointment with her own doctor for a month , she wasn't worried. From when she saw her doctor, she saw the gynaecologist, had a biopsy, was diagnosed with cancer and had her operation all within two months. She was lucky, it was caught early and had not had chance to spread. She still has to go for check ups every three months, but that is good because if it does return it will be found right away.
So what we want to say is if any of your family think something is not right, DON'T IGNORE IT!! DON'T BE EMBARRASSED!! Go and get checked without any delay.
We are sending our purrs to all our friends who have family or friends who are bravely battling the disease. With all our support we can help them beat it.

LiveStrong Day ~ October 2, 2010

Dear Supporters,

When we first heard that LIVESTRONG were hosting a global awareness day on October 2nd 2010, and were encouraging everyone to show their support by wearing YELLOW that day ~ we knew we had to join in. And since we are Cat Bloggers ~ we thought the best way to do this was by going YELLOW on our blog and asking our fellow bloggers to do the same. We had no idea that we would get so much enthusiastic support ~ and we cannot thank you all enough. Ann at Zoolatry kindly created the wonderful LiveStrong cat-image for us ~ and quite quickly after our first post about our intentions, we noticed the image appearing in blog after blog in the sidebars. We cannot thank yoo all enough.

Why?

Yoo may be wondering why we got involved? Well we were greatly saddened when we heard that "Poppy" (Ann's beloved husband Vic) was fighting cancer ~ and we felt helpless and wanted to show our suppport to Vic and the whole family. Our involvement in LIVESTRONG has always been about Vic. We also became aware that some of our other dear blogging friends were fighting cancer, or had died of cancer (MaxDog, and later Sniffie) and this broke our hearts too.

We should also point out that cancer (we always spell it with a small c as we don't want to give it more power) is a subject very close to our hearts as many members of our hooman family and friends have had cancer.

Mom is a survivor, she was diagnosed with CHONDROSARCOMA (primary bone cancer) in 1995 ~ and had her most recent surgery (a bone graft) in 2009. Dad was diagnosed with skin cancer this year ~ and had to have surgery this summer. Mom's first ever kitten (a beautiful beloved grey boy called Confucious) died of Feline Leukemia. Mom's beloved father died of prostrate cancer. Dad's beloved mother died of pancreatic cancer. Mom's dear and best friends, Gilly and Rod, both died of cancer (malignant melanoma, and liver cancer). Mom's uncle is currently terminally ill with prostrate cancer, and mom's daughter-in-law's father has prostrate cancer. We know all about cancer and the sufferings it can bring.

Of course Mom knows many SURVIVORS too; as a member of a cancer support group she came to know many fine people who have survived cancer, and many decades later still live healthy, full lives. Cancer is not the kiss of death that many people fear ~ mom has survived 17 years so far ~ and her prognosis is excellent.

So we thought that by going YELLOW we would be showing our SUPPORT ~ and help raise AWARENESS ~ and maybe some people would DONATE to LIVESTRONG ~ and what better way could there be than by joining in a global awareness campaign that brings people together to push for better treatment, more cancer funding, and access to care for everyone? That's the idea behind LIVESTRONG ACTION. And in the process we could be showing our love and support for Vic ~ and every other hooman and animal out there who is fighting cancer. (Treatment Plans and Cures that are found for cancer in hoomans benefit animals in the long term too as the knowledge cascades ~ and that is equally impawtant to us).

So THANK YOO from the bottom of our hearts for joining in, and supporting us in supporting LIVESTRONG. We believe in the Power of the Purr.

Go Yellow for Livestrong Day!

Our grandma and great-grandma beat cancer, but many others in our family did not. We are thankful every day for the advances in science that allow many cancer patients the hope of remission.

In honor of those who are fighting the battle against cancer, or who have beaten it, and in memory of those who lost their lives to cancer, Freya is wearing her yellow sundress. We also would like to remember those who lost their lives to feline cancers, including our Skylar and Lydia.

Here are Shasta and Shiloh modeling their YELLOW raincoats to show their support for LIVESTRONG! I wish they had been a part of my family years before when I lost my mom to colon cancer and then my dad about 10 and a half years later to lung cancer. My mom battled the cancer beast for almost 5 years before the beast won at last even though my mom fought a very tough battle. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer less than 2 months before he died - when it was found, the cancer beast had already spread to several areas of his body and was told treatment - radiation or chemo (surgery was not an option due to how widespread the cancer was) - would only prolong his life a few short months and his quality of life would be compromised. Years before he watched helplessly as my mom went through countless treatments, surgeries and pain - he made the determination that he did not want that and us kids wholly supported his decision even though we knew what it meant.

I wish I could say losing both of my parents was the only connection I had with cancer but it isn't. Many years ago, when I was still in my late teens, one of my uncles who lived in Colorado at the time, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Since we were living in Kansas, we were not around much but I remember when during one summer we visited them and he was showing us the pattern that the radiology techs followed during his radiation treatment. It wasn't long until we visited again only it was only my aunt (his widow) and her two children we visited. Then several years later, but only a few months before my mom died that I lost another uncle to lung cancer. He also struggled and fought hard but it was shortly before Christmas that the cancer beast won. About 3 years before that, one of my aunts died from breast cancer. In 1976, while I was in the hospital for surgery to remove a non-cancerous brain tumor, my aunt was having a mastectomy. After her surgery, she fought hard to live to see her youngest son graduate high school - she made it but not much longer. Then, just about two years ago, one of my cousins, although the cancer diagnosis was never firmly established but suspected and so many other possible diagnosis were ruled out - it was not surprising when she passed away shortly after she entered the hospice and I felt fortunate that Shiloh and I were welcomed there during this difficult time for the family.

Then there are the co-workers - the ones who have fought the good fight but eventually, could fight no more. Now, one of those co-workers is also a close friend of mine who was diagnosed with breast cancer and has gone through the usual treatments and surgery - she is doing well now. Several people who attend the same church I do have been forced, in some way, to have been touched by the cancer beast. We have lost members of the church due to cancer or their spouse or son or daughter - there are members living and surviving with it.

Finally, I have a very personal connection with cancer - melanoma to be more specific. It was almost 11 years ago when I got that diagnosis after a large mole on my face was removed. The thing that is the scariest about melanoma - one never realizes unless they have done the research - just how serious a melanoma diagnosis can be. True, in it's simplest form - the mole - most people think that when melanoma is discovered early and removed then that's the end of it. While this might be true in some cases and so far it is with me, like with all cancers, it only takes that one cancer cell to spread internally. There are so many people, especially young adults who think "Oh, that's just skin cancer" - cancer of any kind is still cancer; it can affect any and all areas of the body, inside and out. Melanoma does NOT confine itself to just the skin although the name may change - like adenocarcinoma of a certain major organ of the body. People need to be educated - made aware and that is the mission of

LIVESTRONG!

Today is a special day among the humans, and among us Cats, and other Animals, as well.

You see, we can get Cancer, too.

The LiveStrong Charity, and all its related programs fights to improve the lives of all who are affected by cancer, and have been doing so, alongside Lance Armstrong, and many others, since about 1997.

Their Manifesto is a moving Poem that says it all.

The Cat Blogging Community, around the world, has joined together to show our support as only we know how. ;-D

Daddy Kiril had an Aunt & Uncle, he was born in the first decade of the 20th century, she 10 years after that.

They met, and married, in the 1930's, but could never have children of their own, so they adopted a baby boy they named Lawrence.

The 40's saw them leave Kentucky, and by the 50's they were living in Ca..

In the late 60's they made a friend who raised purebred Boxers for show, and they soon adopted one from a litter, in about 1969, and they named her BabyGirl.

Pat, and Pop, were life long smokers, however, and they smoked a lot.

It all finally caught up with them, and he died in 1978, and she died in 1980.

Daddy, and I are doing this post, for them, and for their precious BabyGirl, with whom they re-united in Rainbow Bridge.

We Furrydance cats, and Teri join MILO AND ALFIE AND JAN in focusing awareness of those affected by cancer, by going Yellow for LIVESTRONG Day 2010. We didn't know we had any yellow outfits, but we do and to show our support, we dressed up!

LIVESTRONG Day helps raise awareness of cancer, those who are fighting the good fight and those who are survivors...both human and animal! While our Teri has not lost a family member to cancer, she has lost two kitties to cancer.

Her very first kitty, Cascais, had intestinal cancer, as did one of her Cornish Rex, Skiddy. They both lived many months after their diagnosis, and Teri knows each extra day with them was a gift.

And brave Trevor, who lived in a home with heavy smokers for most of his life, came back home to Teri when he was an old cat and not too long after that, he was diagnosed with nasal cancer, most likely due to inhaling all that cigarette smoke for so long. To think that his cancer might have been prevented makes Teri sad to have lost him to it.

We are proud to GO YELLOW for LIVESTRONG Day and spread the awareness with the message...

We choose brother Heesh to be our spokescat cuz he's a cancer survivor. Cancer has played a big role in our family. Besides Brother Heesh, Sister Sheesh had it. Da biped's bestest human friend lost the battle to it. Da biped's brother has had serious lung cancer which is in remission and da biped and grandma both have had skin cancer.

The Florida Furkids and Angel Sniffie Livestrong Today

We've chosen Sniffie to represent us because we recently lost our precious girl to cancer. We hate cancer.

Mom is really disappointed by how little research is devoted to Feline cancer. We have found lots of places that do Veterinary cancer research, but most of them are devoted to dogs with a little research for cats. Cats and Dogs are very different in many ways, and the types of cancers and treatments are very different. When she finds a place that specializes in Cat research, she is going to put a link on our blog and donate to them. We need to beat this ugly disease. Sniffie is the third furkid that Mom has lost to cancer. Kashmir and Baschert both had cancer. We're also purring and praying for Vic, Dad to the Zoolatry girls. Let's Livestrong everyday and eliminate cancer in our lifetime.

My before mommy was named Kitty. She always wore her favorite yellow sweater. She died of cancer after four short months. During those months she LIVED STRONG! One beautiful evening watching the sun set over the desert she said these unforgettable words to us, "I never knew how beautiful life could be."I am a cancer survivor. I had a huge tumor on my belly. Two Easters ago it was removed. I am a very happy cat at almost 18 years old. I live each day to the fullest and know I am valuable to those I share my heart with. My tumors are slowly growing back again...I did not want to tell you that but I feel I need to set a good example for LIVESTRONG. We can endure with courage and dignity...keep the faith and have hope that we might inspire someone along their rocky road. Thank you for being my friends and helping along on my road. I know one day I can sit in my mommy Kitty's lap and meow to her, " I knew how beautiful life was and now I am here with you forever." Till that fateful day comes...it is business as usual at the cozy cottage. Days filled with love and beauty and a few tack weeds here and there.

LIVESTRONG TODAY!

Livestrong day is a day to recognize and support the millions of people who are currently living with and fighting cancer. We picked Gus to represent the House of Cats in our picture, because, well, he is our yellow cat, and it is a yellow day!

Almost a year ago, we lost our boy Floyd to lymphoma, which is a very common cancer in cats, and we lost my mother to breast cancer in 1994. My father, who passed away in 2003 also had colon cancer, and while it wasn't what took him, it was certainly part of the problem.

Right now there are millions and millions of people living with this disease, and there are lots of pets living with it too. We wish that this day didn't need to exist - we wish that no one had to go through what our loved ones went through, and we wish there was a cure. So if you haven't already, please, think about joining in and going yellow to show your support! You can learn more about this event at LIVESTRONG.org.

This nasty disease has affected too many of our furiends as well as the family and friends of our humans. We purr for all those we've lost to cancer.

Fuzzy Tales Supports LIVESTRONG

We have chosen "angel" Chumley as our representative, not because he passed of cancer (he did not), but because he is the patriarch of our fur family, even in spirit.

We are here to support and honour all Beings, two-legged and four, who are battling this disease, who have battled and won, and who have battled valiantly and succumbed. This includes our own grandpa (skin cancer) and our mom's aunt (who passed away almost two years ago).

We will be going "yellow" on October 2nd and we believe that together, we can all LIVESTRONG!
